This is an interesting post from you - I am sure you know how and why money changers were there, and how the animal seller's worked. It was a ridiculous rule made up by the pharisees - the animal's had to be purchased with "holy" money - so the people brought their money and exchanged it for the temple money which was "holy" (the exchange rates were less than favorable) The animal's had to be without blemish (God's rule)and pass inspection of a man (extra rule made up by the leaders),and if fault was found the offering was rejected by man (like God wan't already going to inspect it - or determine if the offering was suitsble, He needed some extra guys to make sure it got done properly) These rules - which were not anywhere in the Torah, made it harder for people to come to worship God in the temple. The second thing I saw here was that Jesus could have found theives at the tax collector's table where Matthew hung out, or anywhere he looked, but sin that keeps others from knowing the Heavenly Father - who desires that love relationship with all of us - infuriates Jesus so much that he reacts in a way that we typically see as almost completely out of character. God hated it when the religious leaders made life and worship hard on those who sought to worship Him. For me this passage is a warning to all Christians - don't make the Chriatian life harder than it already is on people - let God be the judge, and put yourself back where you belong - in service to God.
